Balika Vadhu — Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishtecommonly abbreviated as Balika Vadhu is an Indian television drama series that premiered on 21 July 2008 on Colors TV. It also telecast on Raj Network as Man Vasanai in Tamil, on Maa TV as Chinnari Pellikuthuru in Telugu and on RTV Pink as Mala Nevesta in Serbian. It also airs in Pakistan on Hum2.Set in rural Rajasthan, ‘Balika Vadhu’ traces the arduous journey of child bride Anandi from the brink of childhood to womanhood. Married at the tender age of eight, to an equally young Jagdish, she enters a new world which is at once alienating and confusing. and torn away from the merriment of childhood and her family, she has to accept and accustom herself to this new family of strangers, new relationships and accept her roles as a friend, lover, wife and a mother as she forges her way in the world. ‘Balika Vadhu’ very sensitively portrays the plight of children who are unwittingly forced into marriage, in the name of tradition, and have to bear the repercussions for the rest of their lives.

begins with Shiv and Anandi’s romance in Kasmir.
Anandi gets to know about Gehna being pregnant and shows her excitement.

Balika Vadhu 8th May
We start in Kashmir. Abdul has ordered so many dishes for Shiv and Anandi. Anandi says, but first tell us what we are eating. Abdul gives information about all the dishes and drinks. He serves them Kawa, a Kashmiri tea. He says you won’t find this anywhere else in the world. Shiv and Anandi love the tea. They says, it’s very refreshing. Abdul asks them to start eating now. Abdul shows them a lunch box and says my wife gives this to me everyday.. and if I don’t finish it, she won’t let me in the house. Anandi asks him what’s in his lunch box. They taste that as well, and they love it. They exchange their food with him. Anandi is praising the food and asks Abdul to thank his wife on their behalf. They leave from there and some two ladies are staring at them from a distance. They say, “wahi hai”.
Some people are dancing and everyone is watching at them. Shiv takes their and Anandi’s photos. Dancers pull Anandi with them, and she dances on song “Bhumro Bhumro” with them.
Sanchi brings medicine for Daddu. Daddu tells her, later.. I am reading newspaper. Jagya comes and says, you can read newspaper later, but medicine is important. Sanchi smiles seeing him. Daddu takes medicine. Jagya says, I came to meet you all before going back. And I hope you will listen got Sanchi and take medicine. Daddu says, I will.. I will. He asks him to stay here for couple of more days. Jagya says, i would have stopped, but I have to take care of my patients.. they are very stubborn. Daddu jokes and tells Sanchi see he’s talking about you. Daddu leaves as he has some work.
Sanchi and Jagya alone. Sanchi tells him, if you do my treatment again, then I promise.. I won’t bother you. Even if you do treatment of my heart. Jagya glares at her. Sanchi laughs and says, I was just kidding. Jagya receives a call from Ganga. Ganga tells him that Radio fell down by mistake from Mannu and now its not playing. She says, you gave such a expensive radio and.. Jagya instructs her to check batteries. Ganga checks and tightens them and it starts playing. Ganga says, your doctor of radio too. Jagya laughs and Sanchi is not happy. Jagya then says, I miss Mannu a lot.. how is he? Ganga says he misses you a lot too. Jagya tells her that he is coming back in the evening and he will take him out. Sanchi is lost in some thoughts. After the call, Jagya asks her what happened. Sanchi says, I was thinking about Ganga.. she is so dumb.. can’t check batteries on her own. For such a small matter.. she had to call you. It’s morning. Shiv and Anandi are in the bed. Anandi wakes up and smiles looking at Shiv. She recalls their sweet moments of last night and feels shy. Shiv also wakes up now and smiles looking at her. They hug.
Jagya is leaving Udhaipur. He instructs Sanchi to give medicine on time and take care of daddu. She stops him in middle and says, I will miss you a lot. Jagya says in his mind, she is so weird.. sometimes so rude and angry and sometimes this emotional. He starts driving and looks at her from the mirror. He finally leaves. Sanchi is smiling.
Back to Kashmir, Anandi is getting ready looking in the mirror and smiling. Shiv comes there. Anandi is about to put sindhoor, but Shiv does it for her. He gets down and holds her hand, and then put bangles on her hand. Both have a long eye lock. Shiv then kisses her hands and puts her earrings on. And then bindi. Again eye lock and both smile looking at each other. And then Abdul interrupts asking if they are ready. Anandi tells Shiv, your friend always comes on wrong time. Both smile.
Bhairo tells Basant that they should put their properties in bank locker. On the side, the ladies are looking at old photos. Ganga sees Jagya’s photo and says, he looks so naughty. Jagya enters and asks, don’t I look naughty now? Everyone is happy to see him back. Ganga goes to get snacks for him.. he says he had that already. Ganga then says, I will get water. Jagya congratulates Basant and Gehna. Basant says, it’s all thanks to you. Dadisa says, I ate so much sweets.. only you’re left. She is about to tell Ganga to bring sweets, but she comes with it already. Dadisa says, she understands everything without saying. Jagya’s family asks how his work went. His mother then asks if he saw anything else beside exhibition. Jagya says, I saw many places and bought many things for you all.. He gives them gifts that he bought for them. Everyone loves the gifts. He then gives a gift to Ganga. Surprised Ganga asks for me? He says yes.. and I brought something very special for Mannu as well. Basant says, we showed to Lal Singh and he says everything will be fine in some time. Jagya is very thankful to Ganga and says who put their lives on risks for others. Ganga says, I just did what this family taught me. Bhairo and Basant leave to go to bank.
Back in Kashmir. Anandi and Shiv are in a parachute. Looking Kashmir from the sky. Now they are shown in Kashmiri dress and in some ride. Now they are on a bicycle in snow, and then on snowboard. Anandi falls down. Shiv gets worried and runs to her right away. He’s looking at her leg and Anandi throws snow at him. Shiv throws it back and they are having a snow fight. They hug and a guy is taking their photographs. The screen freezes on their hug.

Anandi and Shiv are sitting in the snow. Anandi asks Shiv why did you bother me so much before coming here.. but now I found out that you can act too. Shiv says, all that I learned for you too.. because “kisi tarah aapko patana jo tha”. Anandi gets surprised knowing he knows such language too.
Anandi thanks him for helping her in moving on in her life. she says no husband can understand his wife as much as you do. Shiv says, you’re the reason for that.. you’re very honest girl. Whatever is in your mind shows up on your face.. that’s why it didn’t take time to me to understand you. I knew you would fulfill your promise and your marriage with full loyalty. Anandi says, I can’t even think of living without you now. Shiv tells her, there is no need for that because I will be with you all time. Anandi is having pain in her leg.. Shiv says he will go and get pain killer.
Jagya comes to Ganga’s room. Ganga is playing with Manu. As soon as Jagya comes, Manu starts clapping. Jagya give gifts to Manu. He then gives a teddy bear.. Ganga asks why so many gifts? Jagya says this is from Sanchi. He remembers Sanchi buying that teddy bear with “With Love” written on it, and when Jagya asks her for whom that gift is for.. Sanchi replies .. you.. and then says kidding.. its for Manu.
Ganga tells Jagya that no one gifted her anything and she is happy seeing Manu getting gifts. She thanks him in english and Jagya is impressed. He then checks her hands and goes to get bandaids.
Anandi is getting worried as Shiv still has not returned. Abdul tells her to stay there and he will go and search him. He comes back and says, he is not here either.. but he should be here only.. where he can go. They go and ask everyone, but no luck.
Anandi then starts searching for him. She screams Shiv.. Shiv. Anandi and Abdul search everywhere, but can’t find him. Abdul says they will have to inform police straight away because once it gets dark, it will be very hard to find him. Anandi thinks about calling Udhaipur, but then decides against it as everyone would get worried and come here.
Anandi and Abdul are in police station now. Anandi tells police inspector that they searched everywhere and couldnt find. Abdul says, he is collector of Udhaipur. Inspector says, it doesn’t matter whether collector or a normal person.. it’s our duty to make sure all tourists are safe. He says if we cant find him till morning, then we will have to give his news in national media. Anandi hopes they find him soon otherwise families will find out.
Jagya’s family decides to call Anandi. Anandi doesn’t pick up afraiding that they might find out truth from her voice.
Anandi goes with inspector to search shiv.
Dadisa is now worried for Anandi as she didn’t call them or pick up their call. Basant says, they might be busy in visiting places.. they will call when they get time. Dadisa says, you go out in day time.. but now its evening. Dadisa asks Bhairo to call at Shiv’s house.. Bhairo also says they will be busy.. but Dadisa says I won’t be relaxed until I get her news.
Bhairo calls and Daddu picks up. He asks Daddu if any news about Shiv and Anandi as they didnt pick up and Dadis got worried. Daddu says, tell her get used to it. They went to visit that place.. not to talk on phone. Bhairo says, I understand.. but Dadisa is getting worried. Daddu says, I understand but we didn’t get any call either.. when we get call from them, we will tell Anandi to call there. Bhairo doesn’t tell Dadisa that Shiv Anandi didn’t call at Shiv’s house either thinking she might get worried. He just says.. they said same as what they were explaining her earlier that they have gone for honeymoon so must be busy. Dadisa prays for Anandi and Shiv’s safety.
Police search for Shiv showing his photos, but no luck. It’s dark now and Abdul tells Anandi they will have to continue their search tomorrow morning.

Sumitra gets a scary dream of Anandi. She wakes up all of a sudden. Bhairo asks her what happened. she tells him about the scary dream and no one helped Anandi. She was alone.. Shiv wasn’t with her either. Bhairo calms her down. He says we didn’t talk with her after she left.. thats why we are worrying. But Shiv is with her.. nothing bad can happen. Sumitra says but she should have called at least. Bhairo says just think she is in Udhaipur only. Shiv takes care of her more than us.. nothing will happen. Sumitra says, you’re right.. shiv will never leave anandi alone.
Anandi is recalling Shiv’s words when they were praying before leaving.. that he will run away that far that Anandi won’t be able to find him. Anandi says, I never imagined in dream that you will really go far away. Was it God’s sign? Why I didn’t stop. Anandi prays and says, if I made a mistake, then punish me.. don’t punish Shiv. Please bring him back to me.
It’s morning now and Anandi is still sitting beside Krishna’s idol. She dials Shiv’s number, but phone is switched off. She then calls police inspector and asks him if any news. Inspector says, still no news. She asks him to inform her right away if they find any news. Anandi cannot wait any longer and decides to go and search on her own. She says, there is no point of Anandi living if Shiv is not there. She goes out and finds Abdul there. She asks him, you were here whole night? Didn’t go back home? Abdul says, Abdul will go home only after we find sirji. They start searching Shiv. They are in car and Anandi recalling her and Shiv’s kashmir happy moments so far with Noor-e-khuda song in the background. She gets off the car and asks everyone if they saw Shiv. No one is recognizing. She sits down in a disappointment.. looks at Shiv’s photo and asks, where are you Shiv? A lady comes and asks her what happened. She shows photo and asks if she saw him. Lady says yes.. I saw him here.. some goons kidnapped him and took him with them. Anandi follows that path and sees a lady. She now asks her. Lady says, this ‘shitan’? No I didn’t see him. Anandi asks, then why did you call him evil? Lady says, I didn’t see him, but I know him. This evil Vikram has destroyed so many girls’ lives. Anandi says, he is not Vikram. he is Shiv. We came from Udhaipur. Lady says, you’re his wife that is why lying with so ease. Anandi asks her to tell her where she saw him. Lady refuses.. but when Anandi says, i am like your daughter.. please tell me. Lady stops and says, if you are not lying, then the wrong thing is going to happen with him there. The lady is taking Anandi there, but says, you can’t come like this (referring to her dress).
Sanchi is looking at Jagya’s photos in her mobile. She says, today this will be my wallpaper. She says, don’t worry.. I will keep this close to my heart. Daddu comes and asks her for some number. She gives a wrong number.. so Daddu decides to look at the number himself. He takes the phone and notes down the number, but doesn’t see the wallpaper. Sanchi is relived, but says it was fun.. right Doctor Jagdish?

Shiv looks at her, but can’t say anything as he is almost unconscious. She runs to him, but they block her. One guy says, this is the same girl with whom Vikram came here. Anandi says, he is shiv.. my husband. Girl’s father says, he is Vikram.. I have proof. He shows his photo with that girl. Shiv is in moustache n looks very different in this picture. The father says, he destroyed my daughter’s life. He acted as if he loves her and after he had enough of her, he ran away. We were searching for him and finally found him 2 days ago and started keeping an eye on him. Anandi tries to explain them that he is her husband. As she argues loudly, some people run in with guns. Girl’s father asks them to put the guns down.
Anandi calms herself down says, fine.. I agree what you’re saying that he is Vikram.. an evil who has destroyed so many girls’ lives. But this girl.. is your daughter, right? Who became half mad because of him.. and today you’re making her marrying with the same guy? To make her completely mad? You’re making mistake.. you’re destroying your daughter’s life like this. The father says, I have no other option.. my daughter is pregnant and Vikram is father of that child. If I don’t make my daughter maarry him, then who will she marry to? I won’t spare this guy. Anandi says, you think he will be a good husband after marriage? No. You’re destroying your daughter’s life.. and with her.. her child’s too. If he is really Vikram, then I still think this is not the solution.

Anandi is recalling Shiv’s words when they were praying before leaving.. that he will run away that far that Anandi won’t be able to find him. It’s morning now and Anandi is still sitting beside Krishna’s idol. She dials Shiv’s number, but phone is switched off. She then calls police inspector and asks him if any news. Inspector says, still no news. She asks him to inform her right away if they find any news. Anandi cannot wait any longer and decides to go and search on her own. She says, there is no point of Anandi living if Shiv is not there. She goes out and finds Abdul there. She asks him, you were here whole night? Didn’t go back home? Abdul says, Abdul will go home only after we find sirji. They start searching Shiv. They are in car and Anandi recalling her and Shiv’s kashmir happy moments so far with Noor-e-khuda song in the background. She gets off the car and asks everyone if they saw Shiv. No one is recognizing. She sits down in a disappointment.. looks at Shiv’s photo and asks, where are you Shiv? A lady comes and asks her what happened. She shows photo and asks if she saw him. Lady says yes.. I saw him here.. some goons kidnapped him and took him with them. Anandi follows that path and sees a lady. She now asks her. Lady says, this ‘shitan’? No I didn’t see him. Anandi asks, then why did you call him evil? Lady says, I didn’t see him, but I know him. This evil Vikram has destroyed so many girls’ lives. Anandi says, he is not Vikram. he is Shiv. We came from Udhaipur. Lady says, you’re his wife that is why lying with so ease. Anandi asks her to tell her where she saw him. Lady refuses.. but when Anandi says, i am like your daughter.. please tell me. Lady stops and says, if you are not lying, then the wrong thing is going to happen with him there. The lady is taking Anandi there, but says, you can’t come like this (referring to her dress).
Sanchi is looking at Jagya’s photos in her mobile. She says, today this will be my wallpaper. She says, don’t worry.. I will keep this close to my heart. Daddu comes and asks her for some number. She gives a wrong number.. so Daddu decides to look at the number himself. He takes the phone and notes down the number, but doesn’t see the wallpaper. Sanchi is relived, but says it was fun.. right Doctor Jagdish?

Anandi continues that this force marriage wont the solution. They are troubling their daughter. He is married to her. She show the pictures in her mobile. She tried to explain that how they got married. The man removed the gun. One said may be he trapped anandi too. Anandi said shiv was there in rajasthan for many months, how can he be with the girl in Kashmir. With others help, shiv got up n said abt that he is govt official n show that id. They refused to believe saying that may be fake. Anandi tried to convince again n asked them to come to Udaipur. At that time, the bride said she cant get married to a man whose wife loves him so much. She cant take the bad wishes with her. All got convinced. Anandi emotionally hugged shiv. The father said sorry to shiv as his face is very similar to vikram’s face n they mistook.
Anandi said she understood but if shiv’s kidnapping news wud have speared then the it wud have a big bad spot on Kashmir. The bride’s father n mother explained, how ppl have wrong impression on Kashmir. They requested not to take the wrong sense n Kashmir due to this kidnapping. Anandi admired Kashmir again. Shiv assured that vikram will be caught soon. He took vikram’s picture too. Anandi came to the girl and advised her to be strong in hard situation n wished her all the best. Both hugged. AnSh left.
AT jetsar haveli, gehena said ds how ganga’s “desi nuska” worked on her. Ganga n sumi were there too. Jagiya n nandu came down. Both talked abt some unfinished work. Ds asked them. Jagiya asked to wait n asked abt bhairon n basant. Sumi said they left. Jagiya said he had some work. Both came. Ds asked both again the same qs. Jagiya signals n flower petals poured on the moms(ds, sumi,gehena n ganga). Jagiya said abt mother’s day n admired mothers n their love. Nandu gave a card to gehena. Gehena got emotional reading it.
Jagiya gifted sumi some old pictures’ collage. Sumi was very happy and emotional. Ds amused. Jagiya emotionally said he manytimes hurt her n made wrong decisions in life. Abdul brings a first aid box to the honeymoon couple but advises Shiv to see a doctor. He says A may be brave but not a doctor and continues with his bickering. To take a break from Abdul, Shiv suggests him to take his wife out for Kashmir tour. Abdul gets the point and leaves the couple alone.
Anandi starts dressing Shiv’s wounds. They both tell each other how much they were worried for each other during the kidnap / separation phase. Anandi tells Shiv that the separation over the last 24 hours has brought her closer to him. Now she loves him even more.
Suddenly Shiv gets an idea and he pretends to have a back pain. He asks Anandi to massage his back and starts unbuttoning his shirt. Mrs. Shekhar is equally smart and suggests to call a doctor and take an injection. District Collector falls flat on his own trick. Some romantic moments are shown between the two.
Next day, at breakfast Shiv asks A, why she did not think of calling his family. She said she didn’t want to trouble them as they would only get worried, hence she decided to keep it to herself.
Shiv then asks her what if something went wrong and before he completes she stops him by putting fingers in his mouth. He loves this attention. Just then daddu calls and scolds them both lovingly on not returning their calls. AnSh decided not to break the news, but instead apologized for not calling earlier. Anandi starts to justify, but daddu says its alright. They are happy that the two are enjoying and wishes them the best.
Shiv then calls dadisa, and Ds is delighted to hear his voice. Anandi also speaks with ds and excitedly shares that Kashmir is a very beautiful place. Sumitra speaks with Anandi and A says that she is living a blissful married life. Sumitra blesses her and says she is happy to hear this. She also talks about her nightmare and Anandi connects to her dream, but says that all is fine to put Sumi at ease.
Shiv asks A if all is ok in Jaitser. Anandi explains about Sumi’s dream and its significance. She emphasises, how much Sumitra loves her as her own daughter. Shiv understands her feelings and comforts her. Anandi tells Shiv that now her wish is to go back home.
At Haveli:
Ds is playing with Mannu and the ladies suggest her to have lunch. Just then Ratan Singh enters. All are shocked. Ds questions how dare he came to haveli and asks him to leave.
Rat says in a humble tone that he would leave, but just for once he wants to seek forgiveness from Ganga and see his son once. Ds hardly pays any heed
Ratan then requests to speak to G alone. DS protects her and speaks on behalf saying that G has no requirement to speak to Ratan, after the way he treated her. G then tells Ds to let Ratan talk to her as she also wants to know what he has to say. Ds accepts. G hands over Mannu to Sumitra.
G tells Rat, not to fake apology and create a drama. She knows him too well, and asks him to come straight to the point. She suggests to talk in front of God (i.e. at temple in the haveli). Episode ends.

That’s why I came here.. and when I saw you and Manu, I felt like we could be together again. I will keep you very happy like a queen, and I will change myself that much that you will forget that old Ratan Singh. Sumitra has double feelings.. she says, feelings say that he has really changed. But mind says, He might be acting just like his parents. Gehna wonders why Jagya still didn’t come.
Ganga tells Ratan, I have forgotten that Ratan Singh long ago and I don’t want another Ratan in my life. Ratan asks, and what about my manu? Ganga says, your manu? What makes you say that? I won’t even let your shadow be on him. Ratan loses his cool and asks, who are you to separate me from him? Jagya’s family is surprised. Ratan continues, he will go to home with me. Ganga says, if you got guts, then try touching him.. he is my son and won’t go anywhere. And if you really need a child, then go to that Padma. Ratan says, she is pregnant with a daughter.. Ganga says, by giving birth one doesn’t become a father.. you need to fulfill father’s responsibilities.. and I am not going anywhere with you.

I figured something was going on between you two the day he came for your treatment. Jagya asks him to stop with his nonsense and asks to leave. Ratan says I will have to go.. but before that he questions Ganga, you live in this house being his wife openly or in night you hide and…. Jagya pushes him down and says, cheap person like you can only think this. Ganga quietly runs away. Jagya continues, before I call police here.. leave from my house and don’t shoe me your face again. It’s possible that you might have to face more questions in future.. will you cry like that? Be brave. Ganga asks for how long? i am also a human being. I knew he didn’t come here for me.. there must be a reason behind it. Padma is pregnant with a daughter and he found out so came here to take Manu away from me. Jagya says, I am wondering how he got out of the jail. They should lock him inside forever. And also how did he figure out what Padma is pregnant with? it’s illegal and police is very strict against it. Jagya feels this time Ratan won’t be quiet.. and tells Ganga.. you don’t need to be scared.. I will be with you until you win. Ganga says, when you’re saying, then I am sure Ratan’s game will end soon. She asks, you and your family did so much for me already and still doing it. Why are you doing it? Jagya says, by doing all this I am just trying to prove that I am not a bad guy. Anandi had told me, if you keep others happy and you also stay happy. Who knows it might be true.
Shiv and Anandi say good bye to Abdul. Abdul tells them to stay happy and smiling like this always. Shiv says they will miss him a lot as well. Abdul leaves. Shiv and Anandi recap their honeymoon moments before taking the flight.
Dadisa is again looking for a girl for Jagya. She gets angry at matchmaker and says what kind of girls are you showing me? they all want to sell their daughter, not marry them. Matchmaker says, how can I say even good looking people run behind money.. they made me fool. Dadisa says, and now you’re making me fool. Matchmaker says, this mistake won’t repeat again and I have even quit marrying young girls.. first let them be 18 finish studies and then think about marriage. Dadisa somewhat gets happy now. Matchmaker shows more photos, and Dadisa doesn’t like any at first, but then finally likes one girl. She shows to Sumitra and Sumitra also likes her. Dadisa keeps photo to show it to everyone.Matchmaker says, I can even arrange a meeting.. Dadisa says, i will let you know.
